Program Evaluation & NREPP
    Mino Biimaadziwin Hoop Dance Society
We are honored to have the privilege of working with the Mino Biimaadziwin Hoop Dance Society
of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians in Peshawbestown, Michigan. The
hoop dance society is a life-changing experiential learning program for girls and boys ages 6 to
17 years old that focuses on teaching the seven sacred teachings of the Anishinaabe - wisdom,
love, respect, bravery, honesty, humility, and truth. The hoop dance society was created to help
youth understand, through the symbol of the hoop, the seven sacred teachings. The program is
achieving amazing results. Participating youth are improving their school attendance, grades, and
100% of graduating youth have graduated from high school. Although dance competitions are not
the primary focus of the program, the Mino Biimaadziwin Hoop Dance Society has brought home
three World Youth Hoop Dance Championship titles in four years.

We are working with the Mino Biimaadziwin Hoop Dance Society to develop process and outcome
evaluation procedures so the program may apply to the National Registry of Evidence-Based
Programs and Practices (NREPP) to be recognized as an evidence-based program. This
recognition will help document the program so it's approaches may be replicated and used by
other tribes and organizations that wish to achieve similar outcomes.
