JLWA developed the report for the 2010 international conference: "Knowing Your Roots:
Indigenous Medicines, Health Knowledge, and Best Practices." The conference was
held by the International Network for Indigenous Health Knowledge and Development,
an international assembly of indigenous health researchers, scholars, policy makers,
and practitioners dedicated to improving the health of indigenous peoples in Australia,
New Zealand, Canada, and the United States.
The 80 page conference report includes the following content: Welcome;
Acknowledgements; Conference Sponsors; Conference Committee; Executive Summary;
Summary of Plenary Presentations, Symposiums, and Workshops; Where to from here?
Future Planning for the INIHKD; Evaluation Summary; Participant Allocation to Breakout
Groups; Biographies of Conference Chairs; Abstracts; Press coverage/Press statement;
Attendees; and International Comparison.
To assist with conference implementation, JLWA developed a $50,000 Knowledge
Dissemination Conference Grant proposal that was funded by the Substance Abuse and
Mental Health Services Administration. The grant was used to partially fund the
dissemination of conference information, which included audio and video recordings, and
the development of the conference report.
Artwork is the report cover. Actual event photo of canoe ceremony made to look historic
to match the theme of the conference: "Knowing Your Roots."
