Riverside-San Bernardino County Indian Health, the largest tribal health care
organization in California, will use and beta-test FrontDesk at eight (8) locations.
FrontDesk is a behavioral health screening software developed by JLWA for Indian
health care (primary care, emergency care, and other settings). Patients use a touch
screen kiosk to privately answer standardized screening questions about tobacco use,
alcohol use, depression, domestic violence, and/or substance use as they wait for their
appointments. FrontDesk allows each health care site to customize its screenings. A
health care site can use FrontDesk to screen for one (1) or all of the behavioral health
problems. In addition, FrontDesk automatically scores the results of each screening and
provides a detailed report. The reports are stored in the FrontDesk database at each
health care site. The reports are available in real time so that providers can deliver brief
intervention and/or referral services during the patient visit. FrontDesk meets
Government Performance Results Acts (GPRA) reporting standards and requirements
and offers Indian health care programs the opportunity to screen every patient in a
consistent manner, no matter the size or number of sites or staff.
This year, the Indian Health Service awarded funding for JLWA to build an application
programming interface (API) between FrontDesk and the IHS Resource Patient
Management System/Electronic Health Record (RPMS/EHR). The API will allow the
screening results to be electronically exported from the FrontDesk database to the
RPMS/EHR without any manual data entry.
FrontDesk is scheduled to be released to the public this Spring 2011.
